Harriet Wheeler has been out of the public eye for quite some time now, but that doesn’t mean she’s not missed. It’s been over 10 years since their last album (wow!) yet I get more emails and comments about Harriet Wheeler and the Sundays than anyone else. If you’re ever feeling reminiscent, youtube has a great collection of Sundays interviews and videos, including their video for Summertime! While you’re here though, why not leave some comments about Harriet and the Sundays! Out of respect for Harriet and her family, please do not post any information on her place of employment! Any comments that do will be removed.

December 3rd, 1997 will go down as one of the best days of my life. I finally saw the Sundays in concert and they were awesome! Harriet hit every note. They performed about 17 songs (this is from memory…I wasn’t able to get my hands on a set list) including the 3 encores. Here they are in no particular order. If anyone does have the set list from the D.C. show please inform me of my errors.

The best part was that I met Harriet! After the show, I started walking to my car and noticed 3 or 4 people hanging around out front where the tour bus was so, I decided to stick around too. One of the tour members knew what was going on so he stressed to us several times that if we just stayed calm and didn’t act like maniacs they’d probably sign autographs and pose for photos.
To make a long story short, about an hour later it finally happened. They walked right out the front door and signed autographs and posed for pictures. (By this time there was a small crowd of about 20 people.) Both Harriet and David were very nice and down to earth. They were making conversation with everyone and were more than happy to sign everything and anything that was handed to them. They must have stood outside in the cold and drizzle for at least 30 minutes. I am quite happy to say I was able to get an autograph and even pose for a picture with them. Even after I got a pic with them I stuck around a while and took about 7 more pics. Of course it goes without saying I ran to the one hour photo shop the next day and got reprints in every size…5×7, 8×10, and 24×36. (Ok, I didn’t go for the poster size). All in all, it was a night I’ll never forget! More photos from the night are available at the Sirens of Song photostream on flickr.

Hi, I’m one of the unusual fans.. Born in 88 and raised in Missouri. I believe the sundays popularity outbreak was before my time. As much as music has changed.. I miss people with the raw talent to portray and emotion with song and melody.. I have an old soul that craves true music, but like a shooting star your gone ..
I’ve been plunging back into their catalog the past few days and finally, finally got RWA on cd (as opposed to mp3 downloads). I’m always in awe of Ms. Wheeler’s voice, but I’ve been focusing more on the other musician’s parts as I drive: particularly Hannan’s drums and how he favors (live or overdubbed) 32nd note hi-hat rhythms on that first album. Brindley’s bass lines, unfortunately, are so far down in the mix as to be almost indiscernible. Of course, exceptions to that are his wonderful lines on “HWTSE” and the instrumental bridge leading to the last verse on “You’re Not the Only One I Know.”
I also realized just how young Wheeler’s voice sounded on that first album, particularly compared with her later, more mature presence on “Summertime.”
Anyhow, always a great band to listen to either for the present or to capture a slice of life past.
i absolutly love the sundays. homeward is one of my all time favourite songs. please can someone convince them to reform and make more of their fantastic music. the music is beautiful with increadable lyrics and of course Harrietts voice….say no more. x
The Sundays were and still are a wonderful band, no voice compares to Harriet Wheelers as far as Im concerned. I first heard them in about 1993 and was stunned by how beautiful the music was, not much has changed. Blood on my hands being my personal favourite
Im sad that they stopped making music in 1997 and have searched the net in vain hoping to find some info that they are releasing some new songs. Harriet and David PLEASE make more music!!!
At first hooked by the heavenly voice & the beautiful appearance of Harriet, then the appreciation of the beautiful music and lyrics of every song,one-by-one,later by the arangements and the guitar of David, and now by ‘The Sundays’ and all of all its members. What a pleasure.
I was in a drama group in Henley-on-Thames with Harriet and her equally lovely sister Charlotte – married to photographer Nick Knight. As young teenagers, you can imagine our awe when during a rehearsal (under the late lovely Avril Lethbridge) Harriet opened her lungs and out came that ethereal voice……lost touch for many years, then remember hearing the Sundays for the first time on coming back to live in England. A sound that once heard was never forgotten. Have never written as a ‘fan’ about anything and feel a bit embarrassed….but periodically check to see if maybe the group will release/perform again, and found this site. My point is – she is the opposite of attention-seeking and everyone should respect that. People seem to assume that they have a ‘right’ to invade privacy because all the crappy forms of media do. They DON’T have that right – neither do any of you. BTW, not pretending to know them, I don’t anymore, but the Wheelers were a lovely family, and Harriet it would seem wants that for her own children and has taken appropriate steps. Power to her elegant elbow……
I’ve always wondered what happened to the Sundays! I used to work at a radio station in Sacramento called KWOD 106.5 where we played modern rock. The Sundays came into town, did some great interviews and played an awesome set at a really cool, small, intimate setting. The night was perfect, not too hot, not to cool. It seemed like a slight mist made for a perfect night. Great tunes and Harriett was an absolute angel. Very nice, very down to earth (which a lot of the bands were from that time [91-95 is when I worked there]), and just a beautiful woman! Her hubby Dave was very down to earth as well. I wish them the best, they deserve it!
I agree with you Tom. I was listening to Wild Horses on the way to work this morning. The Sundays version is far superior.
Ok fair enough, I should have said that it is simple for me, I guess I’m still and always will be under Harriet’s spell, after all she is a siren.
Wow! And to think I found this page via a spur-of-the-moment search! The Sundays were (are?) wonderful and Harriet’s voice is pure magic. While many of my friends from my same general age group (50′s) will consider this downright blasphemous, I consider their cover of the Stones’ “Wild Horses” to be vastly superior to the original.
you may be correct ~
But to say “there is simply no contest”
is not accurate ….
Hi guys,
stumbled on your page hoping to see some information of maybe a tour date or gig in australia? does anyone know anything??
Please let me know on my email address cmcutchen@healthbydesign.com.au
I would be in heaven to sit and listen to Harriet’s voice!
Hi mark Vincent, let me help you, it’s really no contest Harriet is far more beautiful I saw her up close live in the flesh, I totally melted and she has stolen my heart with her angel voice. No there is simply no contest Harriet will win all of the time, lol.

Hello Daniel, do you remember what Schulman told you about The Sundays if so please share it with us!
As Natalie Merchant was “The maniacs”-Harriet Wheeler Was “The Sundays”
Both have “The Beautiful Voices” of my life time ~I go back and forth sometimes on who I like more and really have spent too much time on it
(on looks,as well as voice-lol)Natalie has more material, and a recent release. But a “Sundays Hits” package would surpass just about anyone’s
Ive had the pleasure to work with Ray Schulman who produced the Sundays 1st LP. He produced my old band “The Veldt” and told us lots of stories about them recording their 1st LP. I saw them in 93” on thier 1st tour and was blown away twice in New York at the Paramount and in Atlanta at The Cotton Club. AMAZING espically on “Dont ask me why” I totally lost my shit! Where is the good music today? All we have is semi fat dudes with beards and midocre scranny midwestern girls whining. sigh…
one more thing!! i found this audio of something more!!!
i dont know where was recorded! very good quality

The Sundays are still my favorite band ever, and I listen to a lot of music. I never got to see them live, and had a chance to in San Francisco in 1997
Incredible how a band that hasn’t done anything for 13 years, still keeps you searching for the latest news on them. I’ve seen The Sundays twice at First Avenue in Minneapolis in ’93 and ’97. The 1993 ‘Blind’ tour is still the best concert I have ever been to. Standing 10 feet away from the most wonderful angelic singer ever born, and never taking my eyes off of her, is such an incredible memory. I have no tattoos, but i’ve told my wife if i ever do, it wouldn’t be anything to do with her or my girls, it would be an image of Harriet on my arm with the caption “Oh, as the heavens shudder baby, I belong to you”. (from Goodbye). The Sundays are without a doubt, still my favorite, and the greatest band to ever exist. Youtube is such a great site, they have every song you could want. Do a search for “The Sundays Life Goes On” and Lougirl has posted a video of the song and its chilling lyrics. It’s a B-side, but it is easily their most beautiful song.
