Harriet Wheeler has been out of the public eye for quite some time now, but that doesn’t mean she’s not missed. It’s been over 10 years since their last album (wow!) yet I get more emails and comments about Harriet Wheeler and the Sundays than anyone else. If you’re ever feeling reminiscent, youtube has a great collection of Sundays interviews and videos, including their video for Summertime! While you’re here though, why not leave some comments about Harriet and the Sundays! Out of respect for Harriet and her family, please do not post any information on her place of employment! Any comments that do will be removed.

December 3rd, 1997 will go down as one of the best days of my life. I finally saw the Sundays in concert and they were awesome! Harriet hit every note. They performed about 17 songs (this is from memory…I wasn’t able to get my hands on a set list) including the 3 encores. Here they are in no particular order. If anyone does have the set list from the D.C. show please inform me of my errors.

The best part was that I met Harriet! After the show, I started walking to my car and noticed 3 or 4 people hanging around out front where the tour bus was so, I decided to stick around too. One of the tour members knew what was going on so he stressed to us several times that if we just stayed calm and didn’t act like maniacs they’d probably sign autographs and pose for photos.
To make a long story short, about an hour later it finally happened. They walked right out the front door and signed autographs and posed for pictures. (By this time there was a small crowd of about 20 people.) Both Harriet and David were very nice and down to earth. They were making conversation with everyone and were more than happy to sign everything and anything that was handed to them. They must have stood outside in the cold and drizzle for at least 30 minutes. I am quite happy to say I was able to get an autograph and even pose for a picture with them. Even after I got a pic with them I stuck around a while and took about 7 more pics. Of course it goes without saying I ran to the one hour photo shop the next day and got reprints in every size…5×7, 8×10, and 24×36. (Ok, I didn’t go for the poster size). All in all, it was a night I’ll never forget! More photos from the night are available at the Sirens of Song photostream on flickr.

..walking in a mall in Vermont in 1993 I first heard “Here’s Where The Story Ends” > I was instantly captivated and spent a long time trying to find out who sang this song, no internet back then. At the same time I was very botherd by the fact that, how could such a beautiful song be out 3 years yet I had never heard it? I suppose in living in or near a large city would have helped due to more hip Alternative Rock stations.
I have listened, and then drifted way from The Sunday’s music many times, only to return again and again to hear the beauty that is lacking in our man-made world.
Come back!! I didn’t get the chance to see you live!!
It’s funny. Back in the beginning years of my relationship with my girlfriend (together for 17 years, now), she used to play The Sundays’ music fanatically. I took for granted the beauty and perfection of Harriet’s voice. And only recently have I reviewed her musical performances on You Tube.
All I can say is I’m now in love with Harriet. I have overlooked the true talent and natural beauty this immaculate angel possesses.
I deeply regret that I never took my girlfriend to a Sundays concert to see them perform, in person. If I could only do it all over again…
Saw the Sundays in NYC after the release of their first album. They didn’t have any material worked up beyond what was on their first album so they repeated a few of the songs! Harriet was awesome, David’s playing was beautiful–a show I will never forget. I will keep hoping they will get the bug again and make some more beautiful music together or even just tour.
God Made Me is a fantastic track…one of my favourites. Her voice is the best!
It’s amazing to see the effect the band has had all over the world. I also am still a huge fan and was so pleased I got to see them at Uni of Leicester UK 1992 or so…’Reading and writing’ is my fave and I love the B side ‘Don’t tell mother’ from ‘Can’t be sure’ 12 Inch
I’d love to hear another album by them, but it looks less likely.
I might be controversial here, but maybe they just don’t have the songs? a subjective opinion of mine is their albums after the debut were never as good. But I do love them and make me proud of another great British band.
Camera Obscura for those who don’t know are definitely worth a listen.
JMD,,,, email right from my MSN auto saved contacts. Feel free to email him and see if he replys. All I can say is he replied to me twice and knew enough about the Sundays to tell me he was who he said he was… Specifics about how he came up with bass lines for Sundays songs (since I am a bass player)… He was nice as can be. And if I was going to make up something up,,, why wouldn’t I say it was Harriet? I mean, come on… Swing for the fences, right???
Trust me,,, I love the Sundays as much as everyone on here. It would be amazing if they did some new material but history tends to indicate the likelihood is slim… Paul hasn’t done anything with them in YEARS so at this point,,, he is just a guy who once played in a band. You make it like this guy is Jesus and it is so hard to believe that he would talk to an earthly fellow… Seriously? Hey, I bet Harriet talks to people too… Ya know,,, while checking out at the grocery and when pumping gas.. Yea, I bet she does that herself…. They are just people who tend to do their job very well.

Good luck! I hope he steps down from the loft place to reply to you so you can see your skepticism was in vain.

Even in my hardcorepunk rock days, the voice of harriet and the dream like guitar and drums of the sundays soothed and relaxed me.They are beautiful,They are missed!
I first heard The Sundays sometime in 1990 when I went to university. A friend had the album and was playing it incessantly. I got a copy and it’s still my all time favorite album. harriet has such a beautiful voice, completely unique. I wish they’d come back, it’s like I’ve had this hole in my life – Maybe that’s a bit too strong, but you know what I mean! Come back Harriet, we miss you!
David and Harriet PLEASE COME BACK!!! I figure if I yell you will hear me from across the pond…
Saw the Sundays in 1992 or 93 in LA at the Palace… amazing, amazing… will love them until I die. So happy there are so many people still discovering them and so many still holding on!

The Sundays, House of Love , so much good memories?
“Here’s Where the Story Ends” got me through a terrible breakup back in 1999, in part because the last trip I had taken with my ex-girlfriend was through Ireland on a bus that kept playing that song over and over. It felt like the lyrics were telling my story of loving and ending…I remember driving to a high lookout over the Pacific, listening to that song and crying until I felt…clean, I guess. I moved on and up from there to a new and better life, but I still cherish that song and The Sundays. Always will. It’s the music of yearning.
Sitting in my office listening to Static & Silence takes me back to 1998 when I lived in the USA with my late wife and our first baby. It was heart renching to lose her and the music brings back the most bitter sweet of memories. Go on Harriet, give us some more. I’m 47 and at that age you’re not past it.
Wow,I can at last say what I have wanted to say now for over 10 years.I am a folk song writer from Las Vegas Nevada and have writen hundreds of songs and have played many places.Around the year 2000 a young man listened to me sing and play and when I was done he handed me a CD of the Sundays.I promisd him I would listen to it,when I did,I was totally taken back not only by the lyrics, but also by that most beautiful and oh so pure voice of Harriett Wheeler.About 15 years ago I simply turned my radio off and wrote what I thought was good folk music, but then when I heard the Sundays,Wow!So I did what any inspired song writer would do and I wrote Ms.Wheeler a song.I only wish the Sundays were still around,I would love to be at a live concert and hear the voice of an angel live.Thank you.D.McDonald
