The first time I saw Nelly was at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC in support of her debut album. It was a young mixed crowd that danced and partied the night away. Incredible show.
A few years went by, and she went out to tour for her second album. She was no longer a hot commodity. I went to the show in Redbank NJ, and it was a much older crowd of white folk. She really tried to bring on the funk, but we just ain’t got no rhythm.
I asked her later “Have you ever seen so many spastic white people trying to dance?” and she almost fell down laughing.
